Creating a schedule

A schedule is one finished timetable — for example, your Spring Term or your Tuesday-and-Thursday studio. You build it with a short step-by-step wizard, and the app fills it in for you without conflicts. This guide covers each step and the options along the way.

Start the wizard

On the Schedules tab, tap +. The wizard has four steps: name, students, working hours, and breaks.

1. Name your schedule

Give it something memorable — "Spring Term 2026", "After-school", "Saturday mornings". You can rename it later by long-pressing it in the schedules list.

2. Choose who to include

Pick the students for this schedule. Tap Select all to include everyone, or use search, sort, and filters to narrow a long list. This is also where you set up groups and locked time slots — see Groups and locked time slots.

3. Set your working hours

Turn on each day you teach and set your start and end time. These are your hours — the scheduler only places lessons inside them. Two optional toggles live here:

• Balance lessons across days spreads lessons evenly through the week instead of packing the earliest days first.
• Prioritise preferred days (shown when Balance is on) makes a student's starred (★) times win over balancing.

4. Add breaks (optional)

Add a break on any teaching day — lunch, a gap between locations — and the scheduler works around it. You can also add and adjust breaks later, right on the timetable. See Breaks and fine-tuning.

Generate the timetable

Tap Generate. The engine schedules the most-constrained students first (those with the fewest free time slots), tries everyone's preferred times, and places every lesson without a clash. Groups and locked slots go in first, then individual lessons.

Regenerating and editing

Open any schedule to see the timetable grid. From here you can:

• Regenerate to rebuild it from scratch (for example after changing availability).
• Tap any lesson to edit that student on the spot.
• Drag lessons to new times, or pinch to zoom — see Breaks and fine-tuning.
• Export or delete the schedule from the toolbar.

Edits you make by hand are kept; regenerating only rebuilds when you ask it to.

Good to know

• The free plan includes 1 schedule; Pro allows unlimited — useful for separate terms, locations, or day groups.
• If a student ends up unscheduled, it's because their times didn't overlap your working hours or every possible slot was taken; the app shows the exact reason in a banner and lets you fix it in a tap.
• Each day has its own start and end time, and you can set app-wide defaults in Settings so new schedules start pre-filled.
• Regenerating rebuilds the whole timetable, so use it for a fresh solve; for small tweaks, edit lessons directly instead.
